Nea Michaniona

Built in a panoramic location of the Thermaic Gulf, in the city of ancient Aeneas, Nea Michaniona has a number of archaeological finds and natural wealth of special environmental value.

Here you will find the largest fleet of fishing boats in Greece (the installation of the fish market in 1998 made Nea Michaniona the center of management and trade of fish and shellfish throughout Northern Greece), but also the Merchant Marine Academy (since 1968), which supplies well-trained officers in Greek Shipping and beyond.

Nea Michaniona is a city with many faces, ideal for every visitor. To the nature lover, it reveals a small earthly paradise (natural area) of rare flora and fauna. To the archaeologist, finds from Roman and early Christian times (trapezoidal mound known as "Toumpa Tambia" or "Kum Kale", cemeteries, naval forts).

For the worshiper, one of the most imposing temples, the Church of Panagia Faneromeni, where the icon of the same name is preserved, which was saved from the time of iconoclasm, but also the picturesque church of Agios Nikolaos, patron saint of sailors. Finally, for the sea lover, Nea Michaniona offers moments of relaxation in an environment of special beauty and carefreeness, in the crystal-clear waters of Tourbali beach at Cape Tuzla.

Due to its tourist development, the area has largely preserved the characteristics of the traditional village. So, at sunset, the main square is filled with people who take a walk, and enjoy the famous traditional "donuts" of Michaniona in one of the cafes located above the picturesque harbor, or taste fresh fish overlooking the endless blue!

Fair organized beaches that are hosted by our region (Agia Triada, Neoi Epibates, Peraia, River Epnomis) are fully equipped and there is a distance between them of about 5-15 minutes by car.
